Mini Set Design Lessons
TY Collaboration
Theme: My TY Life

Unit of learning (UOL)
This UOL encouraged students to be inquisitive and critical about their surroundings and to develop their understanding of the world through art.
They created a miniature set design based on the theme “My TY Life”, using sustainable recycled materials to achieve this. Looking at SDG goal 12.
This project allowed students to engage in authentic artistic processes, including brainstorming, experimentation, creation, display, and evaluation.

Week 1:
"Sustainable Artistic Foundations" introduces students to the fundamentals of using recycled materials in art, emphasising the interplay between environmental sustainability and creative expression.
Exploring theme and group formation.
Researching artist.
Support Artist:
This dollhouse by Katy Strutz is a fantastic example of creative, miniature set design. The exterior of the home is dark and run-down, while the interior is full of bright yellows and cozy furniture.

Lesson 2,
Focuses on Narratives in Miniature through set design. It guides students to conceptualise and sketch their TY experiences to prepare for miniature creations.
Students designed layouts and gathered material.
The Remarkable History of the Miniature
The earliest known miniatures were created over five thousand years ago to be placed in Egyptian tombs. The ancient Egyptians believed these miniatures would be brought to life to join the deceased in the afterlife. They are among the most abundant artifacts of ancient Egypt.
